Life is learning

"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young." Henry Ford

The Björn Schulz Foundation Academy

Our academy was founded in 2006 to put more emphasis on education work within the foundation.

The Björn Schulz Foundation has more than 20 years of experience in providing care to seriously and terminally ill children, youths and young adults, as well as their families. The foundation has trained experts and critical personnel in working at children's hospices and has access to a broad range of technical expertise. The goal of the academy is to pass on knowledge in the form of qualifications, continuing education, lectures and other public programs.

The foundation is focused on sociopolitical challenges
As a signatory to the charter for care of seriously ill and dying children, the Björn Schulz Foundation is working for improvements in the field of children's hospice work. One forward-looking step has been the creation of an in-house academy. There are serious manpower shortages in the area of care - especially in hospice work focused on children and youths and in palliative medicine - that we want to help solve. One approach is to come up with our own research projects and then to seek out cooperative partners from the world of academia. One ongoing project with the Humbold Universität Berlin (Berlin's Humboldt University), the Technischen Universität Berlin (Berlin's Technical University) and the firm Getemed is the development of a telemetric, multi-sensor pressure sore prevention system.

The foundation as an employer and promoter of networking ideas
The academy lets the foundation serve as a keystone for personnel development and helps promote the networking of ideas in the field of care, volunteerism and political activism.  Workers in the fields of care, medicine, social services and administration, as well as countless volunteers can trade and build up ideas about medicine and care, as well as know-how about topics like psychosocial interaction and promoting self-sufficiency. Participants from other organizations in the fields of medicine, care, social services and education, as well as in science and research also benefit from the foundation's expertise. The Björn Schulz Foundation Academy's annual newsletter, which always appears in the November of the preceding year, ties all of these offerings into one central location.
